We first wrote about GT2 cars coming to Assetto Corsa Competizione in August 2022. It's been a long wait but the GT2 pack is finally here with one nice surprise.
The Cars
The pack is on Steam now for $17.99 and comprises the following six cars:
- KTM X-Bow GT2
- Porsche 935
- Maserati MC20 GT2
- Mercedes-AMG GT2
- Audi R8 LMS GT2
- Porsche 911 GT2 RS Clubsport Evo
As usual, the cars are presented in amazing detail with beautiful paint schemes and excellent sound effects. We drove a few laps with the KTM X-Box and enjoyed its awesome engine note and surprisingly good handling. It's quick in a straight line and much faster through the corners than expected. Braking was stable and predictable, and getting the car to hold a good racing line wasn't too difficult.
The setup we used had zero Traction Control as default and we had no issues with wheelspin or loss of traction, even out of very slow corners. Overall, the KTM was enjoyable to drive and a lot better than we expected it to be.
Coach Dave Academy already have setups available for some of the cars and we used these via their Delta app during testing.
The Red Bull Ring
This was the nice surprise that came included in the pack. The very popular Red Bull Ring finally makes its way to ACC and it was a lot of fun flinging the KTM around this track's perfect blend of fast, medium and slow corners.
The track is just as detailed as any of the other ACC tracks and makes for really good racing with multiple overtaking opportunities. We're confident that this track will quickly become one of the favourites on ACC.
Final thoughts
This pack may be last for ACC with Assetto Corsa 2 looming on the horizon. We understand that the developers have shifted a lot of resources to AC2 but appreciate that they released this pack despite this.
We didn't think that we'd enjoy driving GT2 cars since we prefer the higher downforce of GT3, but we were pleasantly surprised. At $17,99 for six cars plus a track, we think that you may be surprised as well.
