We saw a recent teaser video from iRacing a few days ago where it sounded like the new Cadillac LMDh may be coming to iRacing. This was finally confirmed yesterday with a few photos showing the new car including the interior and steering wheel.
Introducing the Cadillac V-Series.R
The Cadillac V-Series.R conforms to the Le Mans Daytona h specifications and currently competes in the IMSA series within the GTP class. It's powered by a big, booming 5.5L V8 with a 50kW Motor Generator Unit (MGU) that gives it that extra hybrid kick.
The car was designed by Cadillac and built by Dallara, the famous Italian design company that's been building cars for various categories of motorsport over several decades. The car will also be competing in the 2023 24 Hours of Le Mans in the Hypercar category against big names like Porsche, Ferrari and Toyota.
This car should be available to race on iRacing in both the IMSA Series and the European Sprint/Endurance Series alongside the BMW M V8 Hybrid LMDh.
Final thoughts
For us, the three categories that currently make up the two main endurance series on iRacing should consist of more than just one manufacturer. Just like real-world racing where several Hypercar/GTP manufacturers fight it out in IMSA and the World Endurance Championship, iRacing should have more than just one BMW in their top class.
The Cadillac V-Series.R is a fantastic addition to iRacing and we're hoping that it gets joined soon by Porsche and a couple of other manufacturers. The next few months are going to be very interesting with regards to iRacing getting the long-awaited rain feature that combined with a full grid of LMDh cars should make endurance racing one of the most popular formats on the iRacing service.
