iRacing's Greg Hill posted the June 2023 Development Update for iRacing yesterday with lots of info on what's coming up for the platform. He covered new content, new features a few things planned for the future.
New tracks
- Algarve (Portimão)
- Misano
- Mugello
- Pukekohe
- Lédenon
- Navarra
- Slinger Speedway
- Winchester Speedway
- Kern County Raceway Park
- Zandvoort
Zandvoort will be a rescan of the track, but owners of the old version will receive the new version for free. New buyers will receive both versions for the price of one.
Kern County is a short oval that's configurable for dirt and pavement. iRacing will release both versions for the price of one track.
New features
He touched on some new features that will fundamentally change iRacing as we know it:
3D curbs
This new type of kerb will interact differently with the upcoming updated tyre model and changes in the physics engine.
Rain
The tyre can push away rainwater on the track surface, but the water that the tyre doesn't pick up can be boiled off by frictional energy. This is, of course, amazing and probably going to be the most advanced weather effects model in sim racing.
Final thoughts
Greg also mentioned how iRacing has expanded their staff to cater for various new areas of development, the updated UI that will be vector based and an intriguing new Career Mode. He didn't go into detail about the career mode feature, but we'll keep you updated the moment we find out more.
This was an informative post from Greg, and we, as part of the iRacing community appreciate that he shared so much of what's coming through the pipeline for iRacing. It must be noted that the upcoming Season 4 update may only contain some of what's mentioned in Greg's post, with the remainder consigned to future updates.
