Low Fuel Motorsport just announced that they will be hosting iRacing on their platform to go along with ACC, Assetto Corsa and EA's World Rally Championship.
What does this mean exactly?
iRacing does not allow 3rd party servers so this means that LFM will be paying iRacing to host races on official iRacing servers. We're not sure if this cost will be passed on to users of LFM or if LFM will absorb the cost somehow and provide a free hosting service.
Either way, users will obviously need an active iRacing subscription before being able to join LFM's iRacing servers. The only real value we see here is if LFM run races that are different to what's already on iRacing and supplements this with special events like endurance racing that may include an entry fee and prize money.
Final thoughts
It is still very early days for iRacing on LFM and we'll get some answers to our questions very soon. However, we appreciate that LFM may provide a very good alternative to iRacing's licence progression system and we look forward to seeing exactly how they implement everything. We never expected this announcement and expected maybe a Le Mans Ultimate announcement but it's welcomed anyway.
