Moza Racing announced a new firmware update this week for their R12 direct drive wheelbase that upgrades it to support NextGen 3.0 force feedback and also reduced its price from $589 to $499. They quickly followed it up by launching a beta testing programme where owners of any Moza direct drive wheelbases can update the firmware to a new beta version.
Key Testing Areas
The beta test focuses on the following key areas:
• Natural inertia optimization
• Speed-dependent damping optimization
• New hands-off protection mode
This therefore means that this firmware should change the feel of your wheelbase but it shouldn't be massively different. We won't be upgrading our R9 mainly because there's always the danger of bricking the wheelbase and we're not in the mood for shipping it back for repair. However, those brave souls who want to live on the bleeding edge can upgrade to the beta versions of the relevant firmware and report their findings here.
Final thoughts
Moza Racing has made huge strides in the sim racing hardware market releasing a wide range of hardware that caters for just about everyone's budget. They recently branched out into flight simulator hardware and also launched the futuristic looking Vision GS wheel.
For us, this means that Moza is taking their role in providing simulator hardware very seriously and will be around for a long time. We're happy that they've not only released such a good range of hardware but also continuously updating hardware that they released several years ago.
Needless to say, based on our experience with our Moza FSR wheel and R9 wheelbase, we're fans of Moza and can't wait to see what they release next.
