A couple of tweets this week from iRacing led us to believe that there may be a new track coming to iRacing soon located in a desert environment.
Based on the short video tweeted and a message on the iRacing forums from many years ago, we think the track might be Willow Springs International Motorsports Park.
Track info
Multiple tracks are located at the venue, but we'll focus on the track that we think will be joining iRacing soon, and that's Big Willow.
The track is 4.023km long with nine corners running clockwise. It's fast, with several long, sweeping corners that should make for some interesting racing lines and potential overtaking opportunities.
Despite being in the desert, the track has good elevation changes and some camber variations.
The track has hosted Nascar back in the fifties, with the Renault F1 team testing there in slightly more recent years. The track mainly hosts lower categories of motorsport these days.
Final thoughts
Based on videos we've seen of the track from Gran Turismo 7, it looks quite interesting and should make for some good racing. As mentioned earlier, we think those long corners could help with overtaking since slightly different lines could be taken that help with overtaking. These corners could also be a tyre killer, so there could be changes in position later in a race.
There's also a possibility that we are completely wrong about this track, and iRacing may release a completely different track that's situated in the desert. Either way, we'll know soon enough.
