Studio 397, the team behind the development of Rfactor 2 announced this week the complete list of new features and fixes for the month's beta build of Rfactor 2
Besides the usual bug features and performance improvements, this update contains several brand-new features. Here's a quick overview of what we believe are the best bits:
Real Road 2.0
In real motorsport, the track surface's grip level will change during the course of a race due to the time of day, rubber on the track etc. rFactor 2's new Real Road 2.0 feature will basically emulate the real-world behaviour of a track. For example, the temperature of the track will change depending on how many cars run over a specific part of the track or one part of the track may be cooler compared to another part due to the angle of the sun.
We think that Real Road 2.0 is the best new feature in Rfactor 2 and brings it in line with iRacing. This will be one more thing that a driver will need to manage during a race that only increases realism.
Track Limits
Track limits are an issue in real-world and sim racing and rFactor 2 has been reworked to apply penalties automatically based on three settings:
- None
- Default
- Strict
These settings can be used in both single-player and in an online-multiplayer server. Server admins can choose various settings to award penalty points and even a drive-through penalty once a certain pre-determined penalty point threshold has been exceeded. This feature should be welcomed by rFactor 2 league admins.
Final thoughts
This new beta update brings other features like changes to the way ABS and Traction Control work, improvements to the user interface and the addition of tender springs to the suspension setup page. We think however that the inclusion of Real Road 2.0 in this update is the standout feature that will take rFactor 2 to a whole new level in sim racing.
