We wrote previously about F1 24 just before it was released and stated that we won't be buying it. It's almost 3 months since it was released and this article rounds up our reasons for not buying and what we think is wrong with the game.
Price
Since EA took over the franchise by buying out Codemasters, the price has gone up significantly. However, we don't see where the extra money goes in terms of what we get in return. Essentially, it's more or less the same game but with a couple of new tracks, updated car liveries and driver names. This change is for us not much more than a season DLC pack.
Bugs
We own every version of the F1 games on PC since F1 2010 all the way to F1 23. However, despite the game being around for so many years with EA/Codemasters, we still get a game that is riddled with bugs every single year. Since the game engine hasn't changed for several years, we don't understand why it has bugs that are so bad.
What a nicely polished game, thanks EA and Codemaster

The video above, from two days ago, is one example of massive bugs that shouldn't be in the game, especially a game that has been with the same developer for over 14 years.
Features
The game doesnt really introduce new features besides gimmicks like microstransactions or buying furniture for your virtual apartment. Proper, ranked play similar to iRacing or Low Fuel Motorsport for ACC is lacking. Online multiplayer is a warzone and the best way to race cleanly is to join a league.
Something as basic as mouse control for menu navigation is not available and the force feedback is really poor when compared to ACC, iRacing or even Le Mans Ultimate. We used to have classic cars from back in the day but even that is gone.
Final thoughts
We see F1 24 as a licence that makes money for EA/Codemasters and not much more. The game runs the same engine every year and adds very little features but piles on the bugs. Sadly, we don't see this changing anytime soon unless the F1 license is moved away from EA to another developer. We can't do much about changing the state of the F1 game series but the one thing we did do is vote with our wallet.
